This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This is a study of the treatment of children with autism spectrum disorders with the medication escitalopram. This medication is a serotonin reuptake inhibitor. These medications have been found to be helpful in this group of children. However, the dosing is very difficult to predict. Therefore, we are looking at particular genes in the serotonin system to see if these genes predict for dosing differences, as well as differences in tolerability and efficacy.
