This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. This proposal seeks to utilize pharmacological countermeasures to improve orthostatic tolerance in women. We postulate that an infusion of octreotide prior to head-up tilt (HUT) will decrease splanchnic blood flow, causing a redistribution of blood to other regions of the body and thus will improve orthostatic tolerance.
