This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The self-assembly and covalent stabilization of amphiphilic block copolymers is being developed as a methodology for the preparation of robust nanostructured materials of well-defined structure, composition, and size, which are designed for specific materials properties and to exhibit selective biological interactions. MALDI-TOF has been a critical characterization tool for the characterization of the amphiphilic block copolymers. Mass spectrometric analysis has also played a significant role in the characterization of molecular components, e.g. antibiotics, peptides, sugars, etc., used to surface decorate the nanostructures.
