This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Post-spaceflight orthostatic intolerance (OI) is one of the highest cardiovascular risks associated with spaceflight. Despite considerable efforts over the past 30+ years, there remains a lack of universal consensus regarding the mechanisms underlying post-spaceflight OI. This project, in conjunction with NASA, aims at retrieving, archiving, and analyzing tilt and stand test data from astronauts pre- and post-spaceflight and using these data in conjunction with computational models of the cardiovascular system to estimate parameters of the system that are affected by exposure to microgravity.
