英文摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI-MS) has been a powerful technique in the bio-macromolecules field. The matrix, a small organic molecule, plays a key role in the mass spectral method. The MALDI method has been developed empirically and its mechanism is not yet fully understood. The motivation of this project is to understand how the matrix molecule works or how it interacts with the protein. The aim of this work is to find specific interactions between the protein and the matrix molecule, so it will help explain the formation of a protein cation and how the proton transfer occurs.
