项目摘要

General administration of the core grant has been carried out by the current Program Director, Dr. Colin Barnstable, since 1990. Barnstable is slated to become chair of the Department of Neural and Behavioral Sciences at Penn State, so the role of Program Director is being transitioned to Dr. Michael Crair, the PI of the current competitive renewal. After leaving Yale University in the summer of 2007, Dr. Barnstable has agreed to stay on as a member of the Yale Vision Core External Advisory Committee to provide transitional stability and insight into vision core function. The new Program Director, Dr. Crair, has worked on the mammalian visual system for over fifteen years, and has extensive experience with vision core programs at UCSF and Baylor College of Medicine, where he was a Core Module Director (Machine Shop) before moving to Yale to become a Core Module Director (Imaging and Image Analysis) in the current vision core grant. As a faculty member of both the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science and the Department of Neurobiology, as well as a collaborator of faculty in other participating departments, he is well placed to keep in touch with the needs of the Yale Vision community. He is also fundamentally dedicated to promoting the use of the vision core modules by all investigators in the vision core program to foster research in their labs and facilitate the growth of vision research throughout the Yale campus. His research program is currently funded by two NIH Roi's, one from the NEI.
