英文摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Core A's components are multi-fold, and serve to: enable mentoring; steer thematic faculty and program development; guide resource utilization; and provide national interactions and opportunities. Strong Internal and External Advisory Committees (IAC, EAC) critically review all research projects for merit, significance, likelihood for independent funding, clinical relevance, and progress. Mentoring on projects, proposals, publications, and career development further occurs via formally defined investigator-mentor pairings, and now quite effective regular processes established via Core A. This is reinforced via thrice annual IAC and twice annual EAC plus full Program retreats. Internal review of grant applications and manuscripts also is accomplished via Core A. Decisions on faculty recruitment, hires, and possible discontinuance are further guided via this core, and its constituents. At the institutional, regional, and national levels, Core A and its IAC and EAC components interact in important ways with clinical and educational arms of our parent medical center, and with our Institute's external scientific advisory board. These interactions also assist junior investigators with career development opportunities. Overall, Core A has evolved to comprise an important and now quite productive hub. Core A also contributes partial sponsorship for an outstanding invited seminar series.
