This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Administrative Core (Core A): Goals are to advise on investigatory scope and focus; to recruit, mentor and advance trainees; to manage and effectively utilize all resources; and to facilitate productive interactions with other COBRE, State, and National programs. Our Internal Advisory Committee has been bolstered to now include Drs. Ault, Himmelfarb, Friesel, Verdi, Knowles, Liaw, Lindner and Prudovsky. For trainees, this provides the following mentoring relationships: Wang, Prudovsky & Wojchowski; Yoon, Friesel & Lindner; Oxburgh, Himmelfarb & Wojchowski; de Vries, Knowles & Ault; Mills, Friesel, Ault, & Knowles. IAC and trainee retreats were held 9/06 and 11/06. Trainees presented findings and goals, and meeting with mentors were completed. Our External Advisory Committee has been fortified to include N.Speck (Dartmouth), T.Gridley (The Jackson Laboratory), P.Besmer (Sloan Kettering), G.Sprangrude (U Utah), and H.Broxmeyer (Indiana U). Dr L.Zon (HMS) also has joined our Scientific Advisory Board. Notably, a highly successful all-inclusive retreat has held in October, 2006. A follow up that focuses on science and our competing renewal application is scheduled for June 15, 2007. Core A resources also co-sponsor an outstanding seminar series: Frank Costantini (Columbia University), Erwin Bottinger (Mt. Sinai Medical Center), Tom Gridley (The Jackson Laboratory), Vicki Rosen (Harvard School of Dental Medicine), Cathy Mendelsohn (Columbia University Medical Center), Jordan Kreidberg (Children's Hospital, Boston, MA), and James Palis (University of Rochester). Dr. DM Wojchowski will continue to take a lead role in developing this program. Joe Verdi also will contribute 3.6 cal. months effort to Core A. Overall, Core A aims to enable (via expert senior and national input) the tasks of: 1/ scientifically advancing our field (in clinically relevant ways); 2/ advancing trainees as competitive independent investigators; and 3/ establishing a nationally recognized research Center in Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine.
