HCV VIRAL DECAY DURING THERAPY IN THOSE CO-INFECTED WITH HCV AND HIV

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The aims of this pilot study are: 1) to prospectively evaluate the differences in early viral kinetic parameters and virologic response rates in HIV/HCV co-infected subjects compared to HCV mono-infected subjects 2) to evaluated differences in HCV quasi-species diversity in HIV/HCV co-infected subjects before and during treatment in comparison to HCV mono-infected subjects 3) to evaluate peripheral blood lymphocytes for extrahepatic site of HCV replication 4) to evaluate the HCV related immune response in HIV/HCV compared to HCV mono-infection. The hypothesis of the study is that interaction between the HIV and HCV may impair the host response to HCV therapy in HIV/HCV subjects. This project is a pilot study in preparation for a K23 submission.
