VCRC LONGITUDINAL STUDY FOR TAKAYASU'S ARTERITIS

The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Study Design: This is a longitudinal, observational cohort study. Study Objectives: The primary objective of this study is to develop new biomarkers for vasculitis for purposes of diagnosis, disease activity measurement, disease damage assessment, determination of disease state and evaluation of treatment repsonse. Study Medication: N/A Number of Subjects: 160 Number of Centers: 4 Takayasu's arteritis is a form of vasculitis, affecting large arterities (aorta and its branches). Takayasu's arteritis affects women with greater frequency than men and usually begins in arly adulthood but can also occur in children. The experimental biomarker testing systems identified and developed in this study will assist in determining diagnostic disease differentiation, measures of disease activity and response to treatment, and prediction of clinical outcomes for aptients with Takayasu's arteritis. The study will be conducted at four major vasculitis centers in the US, utilizing the GCRC at each site. A comprehensive set of clinical and laboratory data will be collected on all patients during a five year follow-up period.
