This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This prospective observational study will evaluate the associations between proteinuria and existing and progressive endothelial dysfunction in adult, HIV-infected individuals. Subjects with and without proteinuria will have their brachial-flow mediated dilation and other cardiovascular risk factors compared at baseline and again 24 months later. A total of 72 subjects, 36 subjects with persistent proteinuria and 36 non-proteinuric subjects, are expected to enroll in the study and be followed for approximately thirty months. Study procedures will include vital sign measurements, anthropometrics, urine and blood tests, and brachial artery ultrasound measurements. Subjects will be asked to complete questionnaires about their exercise activities and body image. Participants will be asked to stop taking any aspirin or aspirin like medications, diabetes medications, high blood pressure medications, and high cholesterol medications for five days before each of the ultrasound measurements.
