This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the
resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and
investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,
and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is
for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.
This is a required course for junior and senior undergraduate students in dietetics, nutrition, and nutrition science. The course is also taken by graduate students in the Department of Food Science and Nutrition and Public Health/Epidemiology who are completing a dietetic program. At the beginning of the semester, students record their food intake for three days, perform a 24-hour urine collection, and have their blood drawn at the GCRC. They use this information and the biological samples to perform experiments throughout the semester. They also participate in activities at the GCRC to learn about measurements of energy expenditure and body composition.
