This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The aim of this project is to refine neurocognitive markers of risk for schizophrenia. Two areas of cognitive functioning are being examined as markers of genetic risk and clinical risk for schizophrenia: 1) the ability to latently inhibit irrelevant information; 2) working memory in the context of emotional information. Further, level of cognitive impairment is being studied in association with level of clinical risk, as measure by assessments of schizotypy. Participants are new recruits or follow ups to an ongoing BIDMC approved study: The Adolescent Development Study. The follow-up subjects are recruited when they have completed their periodic participation in the ADS. Additional participants will be recruited from the greater Boston area. In total, 30 adolescents/young adults (age 16-25) at high risk and 30 community control participants will be enrolled.
