SHORT TERM NEG & POS FEEDBACK EFFECTS OF GONADAL STEROIDS PET SCANNING

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. Study to investigate age-dependent estrogen feedback on the pituitary/hypothalamic axis using PET scanning. The main hypothesis is that effects will be greater in older than in younger women and that high dose gonadal steroids will have a greater pituitary effect and that this effect will be greater in older subjects. Two groups of women each 45-55 and 70-80 will be admitted to the GCRC for 5 days for graded estradiol and progesterone infusions. PET scanning will be done at timed intervals and will be the main endpoint.
