This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. This project is designed to determine the frequency of pulsatile LH and gonadotropin free a-subunit (FAS) as surrogate markers of pulsatile GnRH at various times across the normal mentrual cycle. In previous years, we have defined the dynamic changes in pulsatile GnRH secretion across the cycle and have specifically shown that the frequency of pulsatile GnRH does not increase at the time of the midcycle surge, however, there is a dramatic increase in GnRH pulse frequency during the luteal-follicular transition that is tightly associated with the critical increase in FSH that also occurs at this time of the cycle.
