This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Study to investigate age-dependent estrogen feedback on the pituitary/hypothalamic axis using PET scanning. The main hypothesis is that effects will be greater in older than in younger women and that high dose gonadal steroids will have a greater pituitary effect and that this effect will be greater in older subjects. Two groups of women each 45-55 and 70-80 will be admitted to the GCRC for 5 days for graded estradiol and progesterone infusions. PET scanning will be done at timed intervals and will be the main endpoint.
