英文摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the
resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and
investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,
and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is
for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.
Primary Aim: To determine whether treatment with DHA 1 gram bid improves cognitive function in patients with AD, as indicated by changes in scores on the ADAS-Cog and CDR-SOB.
Secondary Aims:
1.To determine if chronic DHA supplementation exerts anti-amyloid, antioxidant or neuroprotective effects using validated biomarkers of these mechanisms (MRI-derived rates of brain atrophy, CSF beta amyloid, tau, p-tau, F2 isoprostanes, and neuroprostanes).
2.To determine the effects of chronic DHA supplementation on plasma and urine biomarkers of oxidative damage (plasma F4 neuroprostanes and urine F2 isoprostanes).
3.To determine the effects of chronic DHA supplementation on other relevant micronutients and their role in AD progression (Vitamin C, Vitamin E, carotenoids).
4.To determine the effect of chronic DHA supplementation on measures of functional impairment (ADCS-ADL), psychiatric comorbidities in AD (NPI), and quality of life (QOL).
