英文摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Cystic fibrosis related diabetes (CFRD) is becoming an increasingly common complication of cystic fibrosis (CF). The pathophysiology of CFRD remains unclear; however an inherited risk for type 2 DM has been a proposed theory, yet it remains unproven. The goal of this study is to estimate the proportion of patients with CF and impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) or cystic fibrosis related diabetes. The relationship between glucose tolerance status and self reported ethnicity, particularly of Native American descent will be used to determine the possibility of an inherited predisposition to diabetes. Glucose tolerance status will be determined by using a 2 hour oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) and correlated with Native American ethnicity status.
