This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This study involves detailed LH sampling studies of older and mid-reproductive aged women who have been primed with estrogen in both high and lower-dose paradigms. This protocol has had several key difficulties that hampered timely completion and unfortunately thise difficulties continue. Our steroid infusions had to be stopped due to unpredictability of infused hormone levels. The stopping of the Women's Health Initiative Clinical Trial and its attendant negative publicity caused our volunteer pool to shrink from this study, since it involves the administration of exogenous estradiol and progesterone. This chilling effect on teh study was just beginning to lift when we discovered that the native peptide GnRH that we need to perform dose-response studies for one of the sub-aims is not in production in the US. This year will be the last year of recruitment. An abstract was presented in the Fall of 2004.
