DEVELOPING A PUBLIC CRYOEM REPOSITORY DATABASE

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The past decade has seen a remarkable growth in the number of structures determined using electron cryomicroscopy; this trend is expected to accelerate. In order to provide a proper interface for describing and archiving cryoEM structures, we work with PDB and EBI in developing a cryoEM ontology to describe not only the structure itself, but also experimental conditions and pertinent meta-data items. We look to establishing a community consensus on the data items needed for deposition of 3D density maps and atomic models derived from cryoEM studies. Additionally, we are focused on improving the current cryoEM data collection and deposition methods so that the experimentalists will have a common, easy to use, one-stop portal for cryoEM structure deposition.
