英文摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the
resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and
investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,
and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is
for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.
Acupuncture is an ancient therapeutic practice that originated in China and is growing in popularity in the West. Our purpose is to determine how acupuncture, with its variable treatment locations and stimulation techniques, affects human brain activity. We will accomplish this by integrating whole brain functional MRI (fMRI) with psychophysical, physiological, and genotyping investigations. Our overall hypothesis is that acupuncture will elicit a widespread brain response that is predominantly modulatory.
