This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the
resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and
investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,
and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is
for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.
Sleep apnea is a common condition with significant morbidity. Diagnosis currently requires an overnight polysomnogram in a sleep laboratory. Our hypothesis is that a device, the SoundTrak Data Acquisition and Analysis System for OSDB, can record breathing sounds during sleep at home for 7 nights and data from these recordings can be used to diagnose obstructive sleep disordered breathing. We plan in this initial pilot study to test the SoundTrak Data Acquisition and Analysis System in 10 adults and 10 children to see if it can record sounds during sleep at home for 7 nights. We plan to compare data from this system to conventional polysomnography performed in a sleep laboratory.
