英文摘要
This supplement is in response to NOT-OD-22-141 with the goal of adding an aim to the existing T32 funded training program titled “Targeted Research and Academic Training of Nurses in Genomics” (T32NR009757). Researchers who will solve the biggest problems in health care and generate the evidence that will have the biggest impact on nursing practice are those who are educated and trained to lead multidisciplinary research and have acquired cross disciplinary, integrated content and methodologic expertise. Nurses are equipped through their education and training to address health and wellness of individuals, families, and communities through a holistic lens. That holistic health care lens coupled with knowledge and skills to address multiple determinants of health in a program of research is a powerful combination. Our current T32 funded training program for nurse scientists, titled “Targeted Research and Academic Training of Nurses in Genomics” (T32NR009757), has a heavy focus on biomedical/biological determinants of health with particular emphasis on omics (broadly defined to cover genomics, transcriptomics, epigenomics, and microbiomics). Our trainees gain an appreciation for behavioral and social determinants of health during their training, however education and experiences that address the behavioral, and particularly social, determinants of health are not formalized in our training program, and this is the focus of this supplement. The aim that will be added as a result of this supplement is to integrate foundational knowledge, research methodologies, and research resources for behavioral and social determinants of health into the current training program.
