This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the
resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and
investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,
and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is
for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.
The Purpose of this study is to compare the CD4 T-cell response and the hemagglutination inhibition (HAI) titer basally, at day 7-10 post-vaccination, and at 2 months post-vaccination in the children and adult groups. Approximately 30 subjects - 15 healthy children aged 5-9 years and 15 healthy adults aged 18-49 years will be enrolled in a 2-3 month period.
The primary objective of this study is to compare the CD4 T-cell responses basally, at day 7-10 post-vaccination, and at 2 months post-vaccination in 15 healthy 5-9 year-old children with those of 15 healthy 18-49 year-old adults.
The secondary objective is to determine the hemagglutination inhibition (HAI) titer of these children and adults basally, and at 2 months post-vaccination for each of the three isolates contained in TIV using the same blood samples as that employed for the T-cell studies.
