This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in women, killing 1 of every 3. Heart disease and strokes are largely diseases of older women; the onset of these diseases lags that of men by about 10 years
