Funds are requested to buy a new carbon coater to replace the old one that has been in use for 30 years.  This machine is necessary for the preparation of samples to be chemically analyzed by the electron microprobe at McGill University.  No other carbon coaters are available for this use and without a replacement our electron microprobe will cease to operate because we cannot prepare samples.
