Cognitive neuroscience of language & learning - implementation with electroencypholography (EEG)

This research focuses on the neural mechanisms involved in language processing and learning, examining the plasticity of the human brain associated with acquiring linguistic proficiency and other cognitive skills. To achieve this, we require EEG equipment, which gives good resolution for the temporal progression of cognitive neurological functions associated with language processing and learning. The equipment will also be used by a group of researchers from Cognitive Science, Linguistics, Philosophy, Psychology, Computing Science and Electrical Engineering,in the investigation of very many interdisciplinary research efforts, such as categorization, reasoning, describing linguistic phenomena, and comparing EEG and fMRI analyses.  In addition, the equipment will provide training opportunities for both graduate and undergraduate students.  The presence of an onsite EEG facility will propel the SFU Cognitive Science group into prominence in this area.
