Numerical simulations play an important role in the development of new technologies and products. As more and more powerful computers become available, the problems that can be solved and the phenomena that can be modeled become more and more complex. However, new computers are responsible for only a part of this success. Numerical methods and algorithms are evolving too, allowing us to tackle problems that otherwise would be beyond reach. This proposal is for the purchase of high-performance personal computers to be used to educate a new generation of scientists and engineers and to implement and test new algorithms for the numerical solution of hyperbolic partial differential equations. These equations can be used to describe a variety of natural processes such as the flow of fluids and gases, and  the propagation of sound and tsunami waves. The algorithms that will be developed will allow us to solve such problems faster and more accurately.
