英文摘要
The main objective of my proposed research is to foster the development and applications of geomatics science and technologies to environmentally and socially relevant research questions that range from climate change and agriculture to broadband wireless telecommunications to disaster management and mitigation. Geomatics, today a 67$ billion/year industry,  is a multidisciplinary field that includes geographic information systems (GIS), global positioning systems (GPS), remote sensing (RS), cartography cadastral surveying, geodesy and photogrammetry.     Geomatics technologies are mature and the focus of the field has changed from software development to applications in the last couple of years.  Concepts and techniques within the applied field can contribute to any research endeavor that has a geospatial component.  A sub-objective is to determine how best to communicate the results of the complex geomatics analyses to public and policy makers utilizing scientific visualization, in particular, research into the union of geomatics with 3D photorealistic visualization.   The research approach is to develop of new geomatics methodologies and techniques that are appropriate to add to knowledge and the ways and means of continuing to add to knowledge in  a number of research subject matters. My research program does not focus on geomatics engineering (the development and evaluation of specialized hardware solutions for data acquisition) but rather on the application of the geomatics approach to research questions within a number of scientific fields.  The approach is necessarily transdisiplinary and draws upon the expertiese of numerous researchers in the training of HQP.
