Electronic spectroscopy is a vitally important technique for a wide range of research activities in the University of Victoria Chemistry Department.  We currently rely on a nearly 20-year-old UV-visible-near IR spectrometer to conduct research on a huge range of compounds, including organic photochromic compounds, coordination complexes of dye ligands, magnetic and electronic materials, and nanostructured materials. This instrument is on its last legs; funds are urgently needed to replace this spectrometer with a modern vesion equipped with important accessories (diffuse reflectance, variable temperature control).
