Electrochemical workstation for property-directed synthesis research programs

Electron transfer (redox) processes are central to many chemical and physical processes. Electrochemical methods are one of the most powerful methods for the study of redox reactions and redox chemistry. Three research groups in the Chemistry Department at the University of Victoria (Hicks, Frank, Rosenberg) are engaged in "property directed synthesis research" in which synthetic targets are deisgned based on some aspect of electron transfer properties which they may exhibit. For two of these groups (Hicks, Frank) electrochemistry is a totally indispensible tool which is used on a daily basis, and the research interests of Rosenberg are rapidly growing. The growing need for electrochemical methods are currently compromised by the capricious performance of the current (fifteen year old) electrochemical instrument. Funds are requested for an urgent replacement/upgrade to enable the NSERC funded programs of these three groups.
