Funding is requested for a research-grade gas chromatograph by a group of four researchers involved in organic chemistry research in the broadest sense from the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Concordia University. One year ago, the only gas chromatograph dedicated to organic chemistry research in the department died and is beyond resurrection. The requested chromatograph will be coupled with modern sample software for data acquisition and analysis, and will be used for the routine analysis of organic reaction products that are needed in the study of (i) interactions between two or more molecules in liquids, solids and at the air-water interface, and (ii) bio-inspired macromolecules and reactions involving organometallic complexes. The outcome from these applications is of wide interest in chemistry at the biological interface.
