英文摘要
Planets generate their magnetic fields through complex motions of electrically conducting fluids in their interiors.  By studying a planet's magnetic field we can learn about the properties of its deep interior; a region to which we have very little access.  This proposal involves using numerical simulations of the dynamo process in combination with observations of magnetic fields from spacecraft to study the magnetic field generation process inside planets.  We wish to determine what can be learned about planetary interiors from their magnetic fields.  We will  consider the magnetic fields of Earth, Mars,  Mercury, Saturn, Jupiter, Ganymede and extrasolar planets.
