英文摘要
This grant will fund a storage server and workstations for planetary magnetic field research. The storage server will house the output from sophisticated numerical simulations of magnetic field generation inside planets. These simulations are run on a CFI-funded supercomputer and on national high-performance computing platforms such as SciNet and SharcNet. Our group will analyze these output files on workstations using computer programs that allow for 3D visualizations of the data. The research enabled by this grant will answer fundamental questions about the magnetic fields and thermal evolution of Mars, Mercury, Saturn, planetesimals, Uranus and Neptune.
