The Churchill Northern Studies Centre (CNSC) provides extensive support to researchers involved in northern research. Research activities undertaken from and at the CNSC include boreal forestry and biology, tundra studies, climate change, freshwater quality, auroral research, northern ecology, and wildlife management. For over 25 years the CNSC has served as one of the most accessible northern-focused research centres in  the country. It is located in a geographically unique location, at the confluence of a number of major ecoregions, and adjacent to a boreal marine environment. Thus it can, and does, support a very broad array of research projects, and the scope of research that the CNSC has supported in the past attests to this fact. Facilitating more year-round access to the CNSC, and enabling a wider range of on-site research and analysis to be conducted at the CNSC would greatly enhance research opportunities for scientists from across Canada. This proposal is designed to facilitate greater year-round access and in-house research and analysis at CNSC through enhancements of the existing infrastructure. Opportunities for year-round world-class and specialized research (such as auroral and climate change research) and the scope of supportable research at the Churchill facility are at an all-time high; consequently, the unique geographic advantage that the Churchill facility provides must be fully exploited.
