Positron emission tomography (PET) is a powerful diagnostic tool for the detection and follow-up of many medical conditions including cancer, heart problems and neurological disorders. The procedure requires the administration of a radiopharmaceutical prior to the PET scan and novel radiopharmaceuticals for the detection of specific medical problems are required to fully exploit this novel diagnostic tool.
