Improving reliability in the Montreal transit system

Transit service reliability is the ability of transit system to adhere to schedule and/or maintain regular headways and a consistent travel time. In other words, reliability can be defined as the variability in the system performance measure over a period of time. In theory, an increase in transit service reliability should lead to an increase in service productivity, given accurate schedules. In this research project we investigate in detail one of the high frequency bus lines in the Montreal region in a trial to introduce various scenarios for increasing transit service reliability along this route. In addition this project also investigates in detail several methodological approaches for evaluating effectiveness of transit signal priority as a method for increasing service reliability as well.
