英文摘要
Several bus routes share segments and theygo to the same final destination. These routes should be more complementary than competing since the competition imposes problems of bus bunching and longer waiting time for users. The first part of this research project will be to study several routes based on consultations with STM where these routes are supposed to be complementary while in reality they are competing due to scheduling issues. The main question we will be trying to answer is how can STM adjust the existing schedules to address issues related to competing routes. Competing routes are mainly routes going in the same direction along parallel streets with small walking distance between them or routes having a long common segment and they pass by a common destination like a Metro station. The second section of this research is mainly an evaluation phase of a previous project developed by the research team. STM is targeting to enhance the performance of route 67 and 467 Saint Michel. 467 is a limited stop service designed by the research team in collaboration with STM. In this study we will concentrate on quantifying the benefits of implementing a reserved bus lane along the studied route and the benefits of transit signal priority(TSP). This is done through run time and ontime performance analysis. Finally two surveys are conducted to measure customer satisfaction and perceptions of the existing services.
