The requested apparatus will provide vital long term support for our machinery monitoring studies and urgent support for a wind facility monitoring program. Wind turbine gearboxes operate under volatile conditions. Their malfunctions often lead to costly repair, downtime and power outages. This along with their restricted access makes gearboxes one of the most critical turbine components to monitor. However, an effective monitoring system is not yet available. Thus the development of such a system is the goal of this program. The short term objectives are to develop three key building blocks of the system, i.e., (1) a component deterioration detection module based on oil condition analysis, (2) an operation/component flaw localization module based on vibration analysis, and (3) a lubrication measurement module using a non-invasive technique.
