Fluorescence microscope with enhanced deconvolution (structured illumination and optical sectioning) imaging capabilities

We are requesting funding for an upright compound fluorescence microscope with motorized focus, a high-resolution digital camera, structured illumination/optical sectioning (SI/OS) hardware, software and computer, which will provided enhanced deconvolution imaging capacity. This instrument will be used as a shared inter-departmental resource at Mt. Allison University and would be the only microscope in New Brunswick with such imaging capability. The success of the research programmes of all five applicants is critically dependent on access to such imaging capabilities. The proposed equipment will provide all of the required capabilities of a confocal microscope, at substantially reduced initial, maintenance and travel cost. Cost savings from the elimination of travel and maintenance expenditures could be directed to productive research.
