This research project aims to identify, prepare, and test solar selective absorber coatings to increase the efficiency and drive down the cost of solar thermal technologies. A solar selective coating is the active material that absorbs sunlight in a solar thermal collector. For efficient photothermal conversion of the solar spectrum a coating must maximize the solar absorption while minimizing the thermal emittance at the operational temperature of the solar collector. The requested equipment is an integrating sphere covering the infrared region for a spectrometer to measure the emittance of solar selective coatings. This equipment will compliment our existing infrastructure to measure the absorption.
