英文摘要
This application requests funds to support the purchase of a 4WD field truck. Both applicants have PDFs, graduate students, undergraduate researchers and field assistnats that require transportation to remote field sites over large geographic areas. In the winter, access to sites requires driving on remote, snow covered roads that have irregular maintenance. In the spring and summer, road access is via dirt dogging or oil/gas roads that requires a heavy duty 4WD vehicle for safety and insurance reasons. In addition, we are requesting a winch because researchers must be able to free the vehicle from mud or snow banks in remote areas. The use of this field vehicle will be maximized by year round application to various projects. During the spring and summer it will support studies throughout western Canada on lepidopteran chemical ecology, taxonomy and phylogeny. In the fall it will be used to study the chemical ecology of moths that are active in the fall. In the winter it will be used to sample overwintering stages of insects in central and northern Alberta.
