All solar photovoltaic ("Solar PV") power plants use large DC to AC power electronic converters, commonly known as "inverters", to convert the DC power from multiple solar PV panels to the AC electric grid. These inverter solutions are notoriously inefficient at maximizing the amount of power generated, and up to 30% of the available power may be lost. In response to this, panel level inverters (one per Solar PV panel), known as "Micro-Inverters", have been introduced to the marketplace, which dramatically reduce the power lost. However, this technology is extremely expensive and impractical for commercial and utility applications.
