Development of effective accelerated durability tests for ground vehicles

Commercial ground vehicles have to pass durability tests before entering the market. Such tests are costly and time consuming. Accelerated durability testing consists of tests designed to quantify the life characteristics of a ground vehicle component under normal use conditions by testing the unit at higher stress levels to accelerate the occurrence of failures. However, it should not incur unrealistically high load that might alter the failure mechanism. Generating loading profiles for accelerated durability testing is crucial. Western Canada Testing Inc. (WESTEST) is an industrial testing facility in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. It is responsible for various tests for vehicle manufacturers in West Canada. High compression ratio between the field tests and the accelerated durability tests are demanded by vehicle manufacturers for cost deduction. Generation of such high-demanding accelerated durability tests while still creating the same failure mechanism is challenging.
