Grande Prairie Regional College (GPRC) recently received funding through the NSERC CCI program ($2.3 million) and industry partners (close to $1 million) for its Pollutants-to-Products (P2P) initiative. One of the three projects is "Turning CO2 and Air Pollutants to Microalgae Products". This project reframes waste from a problem to a useful resource by harnessing natural processes in plants to turn atmospheric carbon and other pollutants into microalgae (with potential for numerous products). This bio-technology presents significant economic opportunities and a major innovative strategy to the local region. To enhance this project GPRC is requesting funding support through NSERC Applied Research Tools and Instrument grant for a microalgae harvester. This instrument is also supported by a contribution of $32,000 from industry and CCI program. Since this harvester is essential for implementing most major activities as planned in our project, it is critical to ensuring the successful implementation of this P2P initiative.
