This grant will provide a range of equipment to support the research program "New Microbial Bioproducts for Horticulture" at the Institute for Sustainable Horticulture, Kwantlen Polytechnic University. It will be used in the new research infrastructure, a laboratory and greenhouse, recently built on the Langley campus with matching Canada Foundation for Innovation and BC Knowledge Development Fund grants. It will enhance a 2010 NSERC CCI grant supporting the first phase of this research to develop Fungal Entomopathogens which will contribute to the environmental sustainability of horticulture and promote new economic opportunities in BC. This equipment will be a key factor in attracting horticulture and agriculture industry partnerships for research and development projects in bioproducts such as biopesticides and biofertilizers. Undergraduate students in new sustainable agriculture and horticulture degree programs will receive training in the use of the new equipment while they participate in collaborative industry applied research projects.
