Heat energy in poultry-producing operations represents a significant cost, and the high costs for petroleum-based fuels threatens the viability of commercial poultry production. The objective of this research is to identify non-contact means to sense the thermal comfort of poultry (turkeys). Further, the strategy is to use this parameter as a control variable in a heating/ventilation control system with the ultimate goal to reduce energy consumption in commercial production facilities.
