Our research objectives involve the synthesis of new inorganic complexes for a variety of applications, including inert-bond activation, catalysis, and magnetism. Our approach involves the rational design of ligands capable of imparting the desired reactivity or properties to metal complexes. A variety of different ligand designs aimed at different applications will be discussed in this proposal. Our end goals include the synthesis of new transition metal catalysts, the synthesis of dinuclear or polynuclear complexes for inert-bond activation, such as C-H bond activation and functionalization, and the rational assembly of polynuclear magnetic complexes with the end goal of the assembly of larger magnetic assemblies from fully characterized building-blocks.
