Prevention of glyphosate resistant kochia scoparia in Western Canada

Kochia (Kochia scoparia) is a significant weed of the southern Canadian Prairies, one that is already resistant to most common herbicides used for its control. Kochia is currently controlled in Western Canada using glyphosate, applied pre-seeding in all crops, and in-crop in glyphosate resistant canola and sugar beets. Glyphosate-resistant kochia has been identified in the US, raising concerns about resistant kochia, either by being selected here in or introduced by seed transported to western Canada.
