Production systems design and operation management in automobile industry have two problems. The first problem is that the human work injury due to repetitive movements is not considered at the system design phase; as well in general human factors are absent there. The second problem is that design and operation management are not well integrated; there are still rooms to improve the information flow in the plant. The proposed research aims to address these problems. There are three specific objectives in this research: (1) Develop a software system to represent and simulate the whole assembly line with regard to assembly quality, cost, time and work injury; (2) Develop a methodology for predicting the cost due to work injuries; (3) Develop a model for optimizing the design and operation management of the production assembly system for the minimum cost with consideration of work injuries. The general approach to carry out this research is a collaborative one - in particular with the team including university researcher and the industrial partner and engineering design and manufacturing researcher and health economics researcher.
